AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project, and the word kang means ‘stolen codes’. You’re welcome. They had this name just for fun, but it stuck forever. It was started by Roman Birg as a custom ROM based on official AOSP builds with more features and tweaks. They’ve been inactive since Nougat days and we await any response from them yet.
